Public Health Course

Public Health Course aims to train specialists of preventive medicine and community medicine sophisticated in data-mining of medical information and establishing medical information system with ICT, by integrating information medical science course and environmental health course. In addition, the course has vision to provide professional human resources addressing change in field of public health, where paradigm shift is await by accumulation of Big Data. Moreover, the course targets to train biostatisticians often demanded increasingly by society, as there are small number of biostatisticians in Japan. As well as biostatisticians, the course expects to train bioinformatics specialists for whom society rabidly grown its demand by sequencer in next generation having appeared. As information medical science centered curriculum which provides opportunity to intensively study fields related to biostatisticians and bioinformatics specialists has been structured, students can acquire profession applicable to necessary research fields for methodological subjects; for instance, epidemiology, environmental medicine, medical policy making and medical economics.

There are large number of workplaces where demand for human resources for medical practitioners with public health mindset not only in Japan but also over the world. Public Health Course in Medical Science Program has been run since 2018 academic year and had educational system providing master’s degree in public health, which no other institute does in prefectures on Shikoku Island. Utilizing such educational environment and know-how, the course aims to train medical practitioners having over 2 years of clinical experience to be highly professional human resources in fields of medicine and public health who will make great contribution to society. Master’s degree in public health, which can be regarded as same value with diploma so called Master of Public Health (MPH) in the United States, certifies that students have obtained skills related to public health in general. Thus, master’s degree of public health can highlight capability to be immediate workforce, especially for medical practitioners having profession in fields of medicine and public health or planning to work for international institute, foreign-affiliated company or non-governmental organization.

We hope to enroll those who are willing to utilize knowledge and skills of five fundamental areas of public health (epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, medical policy making & medical management and behavioral science) to contribute in playing role of educator or trainer practically in public health sector, including analysis of medical data, family medicine, disaster medicine and international health.

Public Health Course (1-year Course)

2. Those who are eager to work practically and conduct research in areas of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis with using professional knowledge as data scientist in investigating tremendous amount of medical information
3. Those who are eager to learn and acquire necessary knowledge and skills to conduct clinical trial and clinical research with professional view
4. Those who are eager to play role in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases with considering significantly interaction with society in community medicine and community health
5. Those who are eager to contribute to disease prevention in workplaces as staff specialized in occupational health, such as occupational medical doctor, occupational medical dentists, occupational nursing staff or occupational medical technician
6. Those who are eager to conduct research on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by environmental factors
7. Those who are eager to address issues related to diseases caused by environmental factors at international agency
8. Those who are eager to make great contribution at company dealing with environment, foods, medicines and clinical laboratory instrument with using knowledge and skills of epidemiological methodology and data analysis of electronic data of health and medicine or medical information system
9. Those who are eager to make great contribution as practitioner in medical management sector with using knowledge about methodology on data analysis of electronic data of health and medicine or medical information system
