Students receiving MEXT Scholarships

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho / MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as Research Students (either regular students or non-regular students) under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.
For details, be sure to refer to the Application Guidelines corresponding to the year for which you are applying.

Information on the MEXT Scholarship

There are two types of application method: Embassy Recommendation and University Recommendation.

 

1) Embassy Recommendation

Applicants must submit the applications directly to the local Japanese embassies or consular offices outside Japan. The Japanese diplomatic missions will conduct the First Screening of applicants by means of examination of submitted application documents, written examinations of language proficiency and interviews.
*Applicants who have passed the First Screening should contact the Japanese university they wish to enter.

2) University Recommendation

Kochi University selects and recommends research students to MEXT as candidates for the Japanese government scholarship.
Those who wish to be recommended must find a prospective supervisor from our school.

Those who passed first and second screening process in Japanese embassies and MEXT, and acquired acceptance agreement between Kochi University and MEXT.
※Those who have not passed the entrance exam will be accepted as Non-degree research student.
